2022 Newsletter

Hello everyone!

Welcome to my 2022 wrap up. This has been an incredibly fun writing year for me, but it has also come with some major life changes and transitions that, while awesome for me and my family, have also led to less productivity toward the latter third of the year than I hoped. That said, I have some cool updates to share. This second year with my website has been as fun and rewarding as the first and again, for any who have read or commented on my work, a thousand thanks. Anyone who reads my work makes what I do worth it, and I am so grateful for those of you who have chosen to share my dream with me. As with last year’s wrap up, I will break this post into several sections, beginning with website updates.

Updates for Worlds of Alemitai

This year has seen the end of our journey through Valnara (for now at least, I have so many more stories I would love to tell from that world, and hopefully we’ll be able to revisit it at a later time). I have also published several stories in the world of Jan Ahava. Those will be wrapped up in the upcoming year with seven more stories that will take us through July of 2023. After that, we’ll move on to another world, though I confess, I have not decided which yet. The two most likely candidates are the rugged, dragon-filled world of Anül or the mist and forest shrouded Ylith Kyryin. In addition, I still hope to write M’Enlâ’s novella, a project I had desired to start this year but was unable to.

Major Projects

I am still pursuing publishing, which leads me to my most exciting bit of news for the year. I was able to complete and edit the first draft of an epic sci-fantasy novel, Sands of Decay, which I have sent off to a few of my reader friends. After receiving their feedback, I will be making additional edits and, hopefully, finding an agent. Fingers crossed! I had hoped to begin work on Book 1 of my young adult fantasy trilogy this year as well, but while I have been able to do some outlining for it and started writing the first chapter, that will be a project for 2023. My year of writing was somewhat abruptly interrupted with a new job which has required a significant amount of my time and energy. While it has been financially beneficial and rewarding, it has also limited my writing time. I hope to achieve a better work-life balance in the new year now that I have several months of this new job under my belt and get back to writing more regularly. That in mind, I hope to have Beneath Obsidian Skies written and Sands of Decay fully edited in 2023. If I am able to complete those two works, I will hopefully be able to move on to something else before the end of the year.

Community Updates

If you love what I do, there are a few ways you can help me continue my journey as a writer. The first and simplest way is to just reach out and say hello. Every comment I receive on my stories means a lot to me, and I’m so excited that some of you have found and enjoyed my works. You can also email me at worldsofalemitai@gmail.com with specific questions or feedback. If you would like to support me in a larger way, I do have a Patreon. You can find me at https://www.patreon.com/zacharybeelendorf. Patrons will receive access to monthly flash fiction that will expand on existing characters and stories within the Alemitai universe. Any support I receive will help me pay for the upkeep of my website and hopefully fund more content creation in the future. Even if you can’t help financially, your continued readership and engagement is more valuable than you can imagine.

Best Books of 2022

I was actually able to read a bit more this year than last. Some of my favorites this year include (of course) Brandon Sanderson, as well as Bradley P. Beaulieu, whose Song of the Shattered Sands I just finished a few days ago. It’s an incredible series that doesn’t get enough love on the internet in my opinion, so if you like fantasy, please consider checking it out! I also read Devin Madson for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed her work! Definitely consider giving the Reborn Empire series a try! Another new author to me was sci-fantasy writer Christopher Ruocchio. His Sun Eater  series is one of my new favorites, and book 1 of that series, Empire of Silence was vying for my favorite book of the year.

What I’ll Be Reading in 2023

I still have not solidified all my reading plans for 2023, but I want to finish the Reborn Empire series, as well as try Ken Liu’s Dandelion Dynasty. I have more Brandon Sanderson and Christopher Ruocchio plans in the future as well. As much as I love reading, writing is definitely my priority for the new year, so we’ll see how many completed books I’ll have read by this time next year.

That’s all for me for now. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read this newsletter. I look forward to continuing my journey through the worlds of Alemitai with all of you!
